Synopsis[]

When launching a console, there has to be games thrown into the ring. These games were launch titles, but were good enough on their own. Craig comments about them only doing 5.

5. Super Mario 64 - Nintendo 64. Super Mario 64 revolutionized the gaming industry and defined the Nintendo 64. 3D, analog stick, camera controls. Practically every game in the Nintendo 64 library featured these. Nick and Craig discuss the little things that they love about this game. Nick begins getting creepy when he drops the penguin off the cliff - twice!

4. Halo: Combat Evolved - Xbox. When Microsoft entered the console wars, they introduced a green console with a green character. Halo started the mature video games in general. Master Chief became the face of modern gaming - despite that Master Chief doesn't really have a face. Microsoft tapped into the 'bro' market.

3. Super Mario Bros - NES. Before 1985, games only took place on one screen at a time. Then Mario came and added Sidescroller to their vocabulary. Nick gets excited about the moving screen. Generations of gamers have mastered it, and Nick continues to suck at it!

2. Wii Sports - Wii. Craig has never thought he would have so much fun waggling his arms. Unfortunately, many companies thought they could make money making games with motion controls slapped into it.

Wii Sports outsold the second most sold game by nearly 50 million copies. Almost 80% of Wii owners own Wii Sports. How many times can every person in your entire family play video games together. This game helped put the Wii so far in front of the competition. We were really stupid. Nick will take on anyone in Wii Boxing.

1.Tetris - Gameboy. The casual game before casual games. No one could beat it. Tetris was a worldwide phenomenal. Craig tells a story about a friend's mom playing Tetris. People saw others playing Tetris everywhere. Only one game sold more than Tetris - Pokemon. Nick still sees falling blocks when he closes his eyes!

Nick and Craig will list the games that didn't make the list without a script.

  • Super Mario World (SNES). Nick was upset with himself that this didn't make the list. There were already 2 Mario games on the list. Nick wanted a Super Nintendo for this game. It was such a big jump from Mario Bros. Nick appreciated Yoshi being in the game. Craig discusses the Nintendo Power cover art for this game.
  • Panzer Dragoon (Saturn). A game that doesn't get enough praise. Panzer Dragoon launched the Saturn, and is a lot like Star Fox. It has awesome graphics. Craig thinks it was too Japanese for western audience. This game came out before the Ninendo 64. It make the SF chip look like a joke.
  • Power Stone (Dreamcast). You can't call a lot of fighters party fighters outside of Power Stone and Smash Bros. They both came out at around the same time. Power Stones had super moves that weren't in Smash Bros until Brawl. This showed what the Dreamcast could just do. People were scared or stupid to not buy this console.
  • THPS 3 (Gamecube). The Tony Hawk games are the only sports games Nick could truly love. Craig thinks about the irony of putting this above Luigi's Mansion or Pikmin. Tony Hawk was fun. It had such a big following, and anyone could pick it up.
  • Altered Beast (Genesis). Power up! Craig thinks about the Genesis commercial. Genesis does what Nintendon't. The logos turned into wolves. It was incredibly hard. Craig saw the cutscene dozens of times. Craig drew himself turning into a dragon!
  • Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast). Nick talked about how technologically advanced this game was for its time in the Video Game Vault. The whale chases after Sonic. With Sonic being the poster boy for Sega, not even he could sell the Dreamcast. The game is still regarded as a very good Sonic game.
  • LOZ: Twilight Princess (Wii). Link shows the expression that Nick made when he received Twlight Princess. He didn't get a Wii for another two months! He entertained himself by staring at the box. Nick thought it was fantastic such as the horse riding combat, more items out then the Gamecube. It didn't make the list because of Wii Sports.
  • Soul Cablibur (Dreamcast). It is still known as one of the best arcade fighters of all time. You expect a drop off in quality, but it doesn't. The Dreamcast was too far ahead of its time. The fact that Soul Calibur didn't sell more consoles is astonishing.
  • Ridge Racer (PS1). There was an argument about whether or not this should make the list. It didn't make it because the Playstation's success was less to do with the launch titles. It was the entire library. Ridge Racer is basically a PlayStation title.
  • Rayman (PS1). Rayman was the best received PlayStation line-up game. The series has evolved so much. Rayman was there with Spyro and Crash. It was a good quality game.
  • Duck Hunt (NES). Back on the best douche-bag list, Craig believes that ScrewAttack associating Duck Hunt dog with being evil. Duck Hunt used a peripheral. The only gun before hand was for Wild Gun in the araced.
  • F-Zero (SNES). F-Zero was basically Mode 7 the game. What could not be done on the NES. This game is so colorful. Looking at the difference between NES races and SNES racers is hilarious. It is a shame that racing games aren't held up in the same prestige as they were back then.
