Synopsis[]

As 2018 ends it is the perfect time to look back in gaming.

10. Forza Horizon 4 - Playground Games. Giving Nick's background of destroying everything he touches, Nick would never drive an expensive car. That's where games like Forza come in. 420 customizable vehicles, or for people who don't care, it is possible to drive around the UK, destroying every wall in sight. Forza is beautiful, especially in motion as you cruise through it - or tear through it like a mad man.

9. Beat Saver - Beat Games. VR wasn't as big as 2018. Heat Saver is part Star Wars, part rhythm game, and no parts that actual Star Wars rhythm Kinect game! Swinging your arms as sabres are satisfying when you get the hang of it. Beat Saver can add custom songs, making this game have unlimited potential.

8. Donut County - Ben Esposito. Donut County doesn't tell Nick much. He can control a hole, like the opposite to Katamari. The right hole can lift up a hot air balloon, spin a chicken around or get a rapid orgy going!

7. Monster Hunter World - Capcom. Monster Hunter has always been amazing, but the learning curve is always very steep. Monster Hunter World broke that barrier down. Monster Hunter World is one of the most open and gorgeous it has ever been. The thrill of the hunt is thrilling, and it gets better playing with friends. It has become Capcom's best selling game of all time.

6. Soul Calibur VI - Bandai Namco Entertainment. Bandai Namco has a hold over the fighting game market. It brings back the cast of the first entries, but mixes in modern fighting mechanics. The super moves are better than ever, and slowing down the action  makes the game awesome. The character creation can make horrific versions of anyone you want! Especially whoever made that version of Kirby!

5. Celeste - Matt Thorson & Noel Berry. Indie devs killed it this year. The best was Celeste. Celeste is truly special. A platformer with this much wall jumping, air dashing and precision jumping was going to cause anxiety. It deals with anxiety in a thoughtful way.

4. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Nintendo. No game was on Nick's radar more than Smash Ultimate. A brand new single player adventure, 103 stages at launch, more ways to customize your way to play, characters we've been asking for are here, as are characters we've never asked for, every single character is back! Nick almost put the game lower on the list due to the difficulty of getting online working. It isn't quite perfect, but it tried hard to live up to its name. Nick will be hooked on this game for a half decade.

3. Red Dead Redemption II - Rockstar Games. The wait for Red Dead Redemption 2 was absolutely worth it - providing you can get over some annoying controls, it is one of the best cowboy games in years. They learned everything from GTA online, except for some of the economy decisions. It is possible to tie people to the railroad, and leave them to die!

2. Spider-Man - Insomniac Games. In 2004, Nick spent a year swinging around New York in a Spider-Man game. For years it went unmatched until this year. An open world and lots of unlockables. Moving around the city is so much fun that Nick kept on playing long after finishing. There are Marvel Easter eggs everywhere, Spider-Man has unique animation for everything. It will bring us a sequel, and Nick will put it on that game of the year list too.

1. God of War - Santa Monica Studio. Seeing Kratos moving from an angry dude to being capable of compassion again. It went a long way to attract people like Nick to the series. The combo system isn't gone, but changed. Interesting world, satisfying gameplay, interesting characters. Single player games still hold a crucial part of today's gaming market. It came out on top of the whole year.

11. Dragon Ball Fighterz - Arc System Works. If you like fighting games and DragonBall like Nick, your dreams came true this year. It's incredible graphics, fun gameplay, and buttloads of fan-service.
